Real Estate News: Home Sales Up in April

Sales of existing (resale) homes were up by 7.6% nationwide in April.  The median price was also up by 4% compared to April of 2009. In the Midwest Region, sales were up by 9.9% from the previous year.   Our median home price also rose by 2.1% to $243,000.

Kansas City Real Estate sales volume coincides with the national and regional statistics.

Inventory is up.  Sales volume is up.  Sales price is up.   NAR reports that price increases were seen in 91 out of 152 metropolitan areas.  Lawrence Yun, Chief Economist for NAR, states that the “housing price correction appears essentially over.”  If Mr. Yun is right, then we have hit bottom.

The National Association for Business Economics reports that unemployment will decrease to 9.4% by the end of 2010 and to 8.5% by the end of 2011.  Nick Timiraos, writer for the Wall Street Journal, reports that some experts are predicting a fall in mortgage interest rates to 4.5%.
